Preguntas Frecuentes
The hike is moderate to challenging, depending on your fitness level. The trail is steep in some sections, and the high altitude (4,200m / 13,780 ft) can make it more demanding. We recommend acclimating in Cusco for at least one or two days before the tour.
We recommend bringing:
- Warm and comfortable clothing (layers)
- A waterproof jacket or poncho
- Sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat
- A small backpack with snacks and water
- Proper hiking shoes
- Cash (for personal expenses or horse rental)
Yes, horses are available for rent at the starting point of the hike. Prices vary and are paid directly to the local community members who own the horses. However, the final section of the trail must be completed on foot.
Since the tour reaches 4,200 meters (13,780 feet) above sea level, some travelers may experience mild symptoms of altitude sickness, such as shortness of breath or dizziness. To minimize this, we recommend acclimating in Cusco for at least a day, staying hydrated, and walking at a slow, steady pace.
The tour operates in most weather conditions, but the Andean climate can change rapidly. If heavy rain or snow makes the hike unsafe, the guide will assess the situation and may adjust the itinerary for safety reasons. It is always best to be prepared for varying weather conditions.
